Several large books on clinical neurology have been published over the past few years, so the need for yet another one merits consideration. As indicated in the preface, two specific aims justify this book: it is intended for clinicians seeing outpatients with neurologic problems, and it is meant to provide the "explicitness of a manual" so that it will have immediate practical relevance for clinicians. It is unfortunate that these laudable goals were not met, because most neurologic problems are encountered in the outpatient office, and there is a need for a concise guide to their management.
