To the Editor: We believe that more data are needed before polyprenoic acid can be accepted as an effective drug for the adjuvant treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma, as reported by Muto et al. (June 13 issue).1 We are concerned about several issues that were raised in the report. The authors claimed that tumors recurred in 27 percent of the group given polyprenoic acid (12 of 44) and 49 percent of the placebo group (22 of 45, P = 0.04).
