Presentation of Case

A 69-year-old, right-handed woman was admitted to the hospital because of a left parieto-occipital hemorrhage during treatment with warfarin for transient cerebral ischemic attacks.

The patient had been well until 30 months earlier, when she suddenly became unable to speak properly and experienced numbness in the right cheek. During the next 10 minutes, the numbness spread to the right arm and right leg, with weakness of the right side of the face, right arm, and right leg. The symptoms subsided in half an hour.
