Presentation of Case

A 31-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of pain in the left lumbar region and the left lower quadrant of the abdomen.

The patient had been well until 19 months before admission, when increasing pain developed in the left lower abdominal quadrant, with fever. Examination at this hospital showed that the blood pressure was 130/80 mm Hg. An ultrasonographic examination of the pelvis revealed bilateral complex ovarian cysts with fluid in the cul-de-sac.
