To the Editor: The Post Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Trial Investigators (Jan. 16 issue)1 report promising results of aggressive lowering of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels with lovastatin, which reduced the progression of atherosclerosis in saphenous-vein grafts in patients who had undergone coronary-artery bypass grafting. The study also showed a significantly lower rate of revascularization in the aggressive-treatment group over a period of four years (6.5 percent, vs. 9.2 percent in the moderate-treatment group; P<0.03).
