Informed decision making is essential for high-quality intensive care medicine. The Critically Ill Cardiac Patient is a thoughtful and extensive review of what is known and what is important to help students, house staff, and fellows make informed decisions and provide excellent care for the sickest patients. Some chapters also provide a glimpse of what is on the horizon. The editors have used the system-by-system approach, with the contributors reviewing common problems in critical care related to pulmonary, renal, neurologic, hematologic, obstetrical, nutritional, and cardiovascular disease.
