To the Editor: In the report by Kittner et al. (Sept. 12 issue)1 on pregnancy and the risk of stroke, the relative risk of stroke during the postpartum period was extremely high. During the years of the study, 1988 and 1991, bromocriptine mesylate (Parlodel) was in general use for the postpartum suppression of lactation. The recommendation for the use of bromocriptine for this indication was voluntarily withdrawn in August 1994 because of concern that its use could increase the risk of stroke.
