The authors have presented a mass of up-to-date and pertinent information in a coherent, interesting, and easily assimilable form. The strength of this work lies in its in-depth reviews of three major topics: the consequences of vitamin A deficiency, assessment of vitamin A status and prevention of deficiency, and mechanisms of the activity of vitamin A. A brief discussion of treatment and an introduction complete the work. Although it is not apparent from the title, the book focuses on vitamin A in preschool children.
The chapter on vitamin A status and immunocompetence merits reading by students of immunology, and the
