To the Editor: Law et al. (May 22 issue)1 report that patientswith idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura who have poor responsesto high-dose intravenous immune globulin are unlikely to havegood or excellent responses to splenectomy. In our experience,however, the majority of patients with poor responses to intravenousimmune globulin do respond well to splenectomy.
Our registry comprises 158 adults with idiopathic thrombocytopenicpurpura (median age, 45 years) who were followed for a medianof 3.4 years.
