To the Editor: Hamm and colleagues present impressive results concerning the operating characteristics of troponin T and troponin I in the triage of patients with acute chest pain (Dec. 4 issue).1 I am concerned that their conclusion that "negative test results are associated with low risk and allow rapid and safe discharge of patients with an episode of acute chest pain from the emergency room" may be overstated and could easily be taken out of context and misinterpreted.
