To the Editor: Vento et al. (Jan. 29 issue)1 reported 27 casesof acute hepatitis A among 595 patients with chronic liver diseasewho were positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) orhepatitis C virus (HCV). Of the 17 patients with acute viralhepatitis A and chronic HCV infection, fulminant liver failuredeveloped in 7, and 6 of them died.
