Presentation of Case

A six-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital because of a painful hip.

The child had been well until 11 days earlier, when an upper respiratory tract infection developed. Two days later, he fell while playing and noticed mild pain in the right hip. During the night, the pain increased, and the next day a physician prescribed ibuprofen. Radiographs of the hip showed no abnormalities.
