In this issue of the Journal, Wright et al. present provocativeevidence that many physician-teachers do not exhibit the professionalcharacteristics that residents desire to emulate.1 Assumingthat this study's results, from two highly respected teachingprograms, are representative of other institutions, these dataindicate that less than half of teaching physicians are perceivedas excellent role models.
