To the Editor: Iacono et al. (Oct. 15 issue)1 report that in young children, chronic constipation can be a manifestation of intolerance of cow's milk. They suggested the link between constipation and hypersensitivity to cow's milk on the basis of positive assays for milk-specific IgE antibody and positive skin-prick tests. The criteria for positivity that they used do not, however, correspond to those that are generally recognized. The results of the Phadebas radioallergosorbent test kit for the measurement of milk-specific IgE antibody were considered positive when there was a score of more than 1.
