To the Editor: Singhal et al. (Nov. 18 issue)1 report the resultsof a phase 2 study of thalidomide for the treatment of multiplemyeloma and conclude that the drug can reduce serum and urinelevels of paraprotein in some patients with refractory multiplemyeloma. We are concerned that the maximal tolerated dose ofthalidomide was not clarified in this study.
Thalidomide was started at a dose of 200 mg per day, and thedose was increased by 200 mg every two weeks, until a dose of800 mg per day was reached. It is surprising that only 55 percent. . . [Full Text of this Article]
