In this issue, we introduce a new feature, called "This Week in the New England Journal of Medicine." It will consist of very brief and readable summaries of our research articles for the benefit of general readers and those just dipping into the Journal. The summaries will be written by the editors and will differ from the abstracts not only in their shorter length, but also in their focus on the general significance of the research rather than the detailed results.
