Presentation of Case

A 69-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of worsening myasthenia gravis and an anterior mediastinal mass.

The anterior mediastinal mass had been detected on a computed tomographic (CT) scan four years earlier (Figure 1) and had not subsequently increased in size. The patient also had asbestosis, which he had acquired while working as a plumber, and mild, nonprogressive exertional dyspnea.
