In this issue of the Journal, Childs and colleagues present preliminary evidence that in patients with metastatic renal-cell cancer, infusions of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cells after a preparative regimen that does not ablate the bone marrow (nonmyeloablative stem-cell transplantation) may be an effective treatment.1 This report opens new therapeutic possibilities not only for metastatic renal-cell cancer but also for other solid tumors that are resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
