Conclusions Colonoscopic detection of colorectal cancer is uncommonin asymptomatic persons 40 to 49 years of age. The noncancerouslesions are equally distributed proximally and distally. Thelow yield of screening colonoscopy in this age group is consistentwith current recommendations about the age at which to beginscreening in persons at average risk.
