To the Editor: In Case 9-2002 (March 21 issue),1 the patient's pancytopenia and subsequent splenectomy may have been considered risk factors for the development of mucormycosis, but the nasal packing also may have played a part in promoting the extension of the infection from the nasal passages to the preseptal spaces and beyond. How long was the packing in place, and was it anterior or posterior?
