To the Editor: In their randomized trial comparing total and subtotal hysterectomy, Thakar et al. (Oct. 24 issue)¹ assessed sexual function with the use of questionnaires and concluded that neither type of surgery had an adverse effect. We believe that this conclusion cannot be drawn from the data presented. The analysis was restricted to women who were sexually active before surgery as well as 6 and 12 months after surgery. However, as many as 24 percent (57 of 234) of the women who were sexually active preoperatively were no longer sexually active at some point after surgery and were excluded . . .
