Dr. I. David Todres (Pediatric Intensive Care): An eighteen-year-old man was admitted to the hospital in shock after a five-day illness.

The patient had been in good health until five days before admission, when cough and myalgias developed. The next day, he was seen at a college health service and given a cough suppressant. The day after, he was seen by a physician at the health service. His lungs were clear, and a diagnosis of bronchitis was made.
