Two articles in this issue of the Journal tell a similar story:primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) may be divided into subclassesaccording to gene-expression profiles. Given the number of articlesthat describe the correlative and predictive usefulness of array-basedmolecular classifications, especially in leukemias, these outcomesno longer elicit surprise. But perhaps they should notonly because of their clinical usefulness, as outlined in theeditorial by Grimwade and Haferlach (pages 16761678),but also because of the rapid pace at which expression genomicsis changing the conduct of clinical research.
