(Aug. 25 issue)1 reported onerythropoietin as a factor inducing retinal angiogenesis inproliferative diabetic retinopathy independently of vascularendothelial growth factor. Preterm infants are at high riskfor retinopathy of prematurity a multifactorial, severe,vasoproliferative retinal disorder and they often undergotreatment with erythropoietin for the prevention of anemia ofprematurity.
