To the Editor: Trastuzumab-mediated cardiotoxicity was originally described in women with metastatic breast cancer. The incidence rates were 13% when the antibody was administered in combination with paclitaxel and 27% when it was administered with an anthracycline.1 Cardiotoxicity rates of 1.7 to 4.1% have been reported in several subsequent trials of adjuvant trastuzumab.2,3,4 However, the incidence of cardiotoxicity among a population of women treated outside of a clinical trial is not known.
