To the Editor: The study by Bonner et al. (Feb. 9, 2006, issue)1 reports a survival advantage with the addition of concurrent cetuximab to radiotherapy in patients with advanced head and neck cancer. In addition, cetuximab improved locoregional control but had no effect on distant metastases.

In this study, the method used to evaluate locoregional control differed from methods used in other major clinical trials. The authors used the Kaplan–Meier method to estimate locoregional control, defining its duration as the "time from randomization until the first documented progression or recurrence of locoregional disease or until death from any cause."
