The aphorism "prevention is better than cure" makes perfectsense when applied to healthy habits such as following a sensiblediet, maintaining an ideal body weight, exercising regularly, and not smoking. But increasingly, prevention of cardiovasculardisease includes drug therapy, particularly statins to lowercholesterol levels. Statins were first tested in subjects athigh risk for coronary events, and the limits of treatment havesubsequently been expanded to include persons at progressivelylower risk.1 The results of the Justification for the Use ofStatins in Primary Prevention: an Intervention Trial EvaluatingRosuvastatin (JUPITER; ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00239681
